Recently, I wrote about how I have seen more students interested in learning how to read music on guitar. To add to this trend, I also noticed more students interested in learning music theory, which is great to see. I believe that any musician can benefit greatly from having at least a basic understanding of music theory. Of course, there is no substitute for putting the time into practicing your instrument. However, a solid theory understanding will help you to improve significantly in both your ability as a musician, composer and songwriter. With this in mind, let’s look at a few benefits of music theory lessons:

Benefits Of Music Theory Lessons

As mentioned above, there a number of benefits of gaining a good grasp of music theory. These include:

  • The ability to write better melodies.
  • An increased repertoire of chords to use in your own songs and in covers.
  • You will write better chord progressions.
  • A better appreciation of other instruments.
  • You will write and compose better music.
  • More confidence when jamming and improvising with other musicians.

As you will have noticed if you have followed my blog for a while, I have many posts where I give detailed music theory breakdowns. This is because I thoroughly enjoy teaching the subject. Subsequently, this has lead to me gaining an in depth knowledge of music theory, and its various concepts. This means that I can teach the very basics, right up to advanced jazz and classical music theory, and everything in between.

Even if you have no prior knowledge of the subject, I’m here to help!

You do not need to have played an instrument before you start to learn music theory. Conversely, you could also be at an advanced level on your instrument before you begin your theory lessons. Children over the age of 8 years old are also welcome to start having music theory classes with me. Many of my students who have had no understanding of the subject have gained a great understanding of theory, and I’d love to help you do the same.

Remember, knowledge is power! So, what are you waiting for? Get in touch with me today and let’s get some online lessons booked in.

2 Thoughts to “Music Theory Lessons”

  1. I’ve tried to take some music theory classes before and I just got overwhelmed. I really need to study it though, my teacher told me to find something that works right for me. Every one I’ve looked at is so boring. It seems like so much info to learn that doesnt really even apply to playing. Is this course fun?
